NOVA students are cordially invited to Towson University's 3^rd annual Black Student Leadership conference on Friday, February 28.  Note the conference is free and open to students from any university.  Also as professionals and experts in student development we would like to extend an invitation to you to present a workshop at the conference.  Information about registration and submitting conference proposals is listed below.

The Towson University 2014 Black Student Leadership Conference will be held on Friday, February 28 from 10 am to 4 pm. This year’s conference theme is Lead, Serve, Transform: Restoring Our Communities Through Leadership and will focus on empowering current and aspiring student leaders of color to use their talents and abilities to serve their communities.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

Registration is FREE and open to all college students regardless of their institution, but all participants must register online. Online registration begins Monday, January 27 and ends Friday, February 21. Visit our conference website  (www.towson.edu/aasd/BSLC.asp) to register for the conference. The first 100 registered participants will receive a free gift. All registered participants will be entered into our closing session raffle for other prizes.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: DERRECK KAYONGO

Derreck Kayongo is a humanitarian relief expert and founder of the Global Soap Project which repurposes partially-used soap from hotels into new soap for needy populations, particularly in Africa. Mr. Kayongo has received numerous awards and recognition for his work including recognition as a 2011 CNN HERO, the Maxx Entrepreneurship award, and the Refugee Services Award. His business acumen and leaderships skills have also led to major partnerships with large corporations and organizations like the Hilton Corp, UPS Corp and the Center for Disease Control. Mr. Kayongo is a shining example of how to utilize your skill as a leader to serve your community.

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS

Presentation proposals are currently being accepted for breakout sessions. The submission deadline for proposals is Monday, February 10 and chosen presenters will be notified by Friday, February 14.

This year’s conference theme is Lead, Serve, Transform: Restoring Our Communities Through Leadership. Potential topics include (but are not limited to):

• Career Planning (resume writing, salary negotiation, etc.)

• Civic Engagement

• Community Activism

• Developing a Personal Brand

• Diversity in the Workplace

• Entrepreneurship

• Financial Literacy

• Leadership Development

• Networking
