Note-Taking Guide

The main point in taking notes is to condense large chunks of information, into small bites of thoughts to refer back to when studying or working. There are many ways to organize this information, try:

  • Scanning your text book before each lecture for notes you’ve made
  • Listening for key phrases
  • Write in the margins of your notebook
  • Use abbreviations
  • Use bullets, checkmarks, or stars to indicate key information
  • Draw in your notes or use symbols (especially if you are a visual learner)
  • Turn 3 x 5 cards into flash cards
  • Highlight and underline
