The Manassas Civil War Commemorative Event

This week and last, NOVA's Extended Learning Institute students received many reminders that Manassas campus would be closed this weekend and plan your testing schedule accordingly. Today, I'd like to encourage you to take advantage of the reason for the closing: The 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Manassas.

This event has activities at 7 different historical locations throughout Manassas, and there will be a shuttle that travels between each site both Saturday and Sunday. I am personally looking forward to the blacksmith and soap making demonstrations, but my husband shows a strong interest in the discussion of Union and Confederate tactics!

ELI is also holding its own Summer Well Seminar Series and one of the seminars, "Creating Energy Through Fitness" occurs this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Lake Anna State Park, 6800 Lawyers Rd. Spotsylvania, Va 22551. This seminar will focus on techniques to prevent and manage stress, and will be followed by outdoor physical activity. Bring water and a desire to enjoy the beautiful area around Lake Anna as a group. I will be attending this, and hope to meet some of you there!
