Join ELI’s Fantasy Football League!

Do you have what it takes to put together a winning Fantasy Football franchise?
Fantasy football puts you in the front office and on the sidelines as Owner, General Manager and Coach of your own football team. You draft current NFL players and they compete on the field, their individual performance drives your team’s fantasy point total and overall success.
ELI Fantasy Football works like this:
You join our league through Yahoo! Sports and choose a team name. Next, rank your player choices based on the players and positions you want most.  On draft day, you will acquire a roster of players assigned through an autopick draft.  Then you have the option to set your lineup each week during the season and watch as your players’ touchdowns, field goals, yardage, sacks, and interceptions generate fantasy points for or against your team.
How well your Fantasy Football Team does depends on how well you maximize the talent on your roster each week.  Will you take a chance on drafting a highly hyped rookie, or play it safe with a seasoned veteran?
Visit ELI’s Virtual Student Union and sign up for ELI Fantasy Football in our Game Center.  Visit the VSU often to post on the discussion board and promote your team.  ELI Fantasy Football is easy, fun, and lets you interact with other ELI students outside of your online courses… and maybe even win some prizes. Email elistulife@nvcc.edu for more information or help joining our league.
Our automated draft will take place on Saturday, September 1st, so register, create your team and rank your players today!

Virtual Student Union

Here at ELI, we’re proud to introduce VSU!  VSU stands for Virtual Student Union, and if you’re an ELI student, you have premier access to this brand new site!  This online site has been built to help keep ELI students connected outside of their courses. Using the VSU, you can start online clubs, get study help, discuss life and topics of interest with fellow students, and also hang out!  Here are some of the Virtual Student Union’s features:

Discussion Den: This part of the site has all sorts of features geared towards online students. Check out the Discussion Den to talk to other students about study topics, share recipes, discuss current events, and so much more.

The Quad: In the quad, you can start an online club in the Club Hub, listen to music with other students in the Music Lounge, or play free online games in the Game Center.  Keep checking The Quad for updates, as we’ll soon have a Fantasy Sports feature.

Newsroom: The Newsroom is your center for all campus news.  We have links to  ELife, ELI’s Student  Blog here, as well as the ELI Bulletin Board. Don’t forget to check out the NOVA Fortnightly and the NOVAChronicle, as both are written by NOVA students.

Events: Keep checking our Events calendar to find out about our next webinar or live event.  We will post all upcoming webinars here, including times and registration links.  You will also be able to check out club meetings or ELI specific events here too!

To get access to all areas of the site, you will need to sign-up by clicking “Connect!”, then “Register” on the VSU homepage.  Once you’re registered, feel free to update your profile and connect to the Virtual Student Union.

Have You Heard of ELI's Virtual Student Union?

Have you heard of ELI’s Virtual Student Union (aka VSU)? This is an online site that we’re building to help keep ELI  students connected outside of their Blackboard course sites --to start online clubs, get study help, discuss topics of interest with fellow students, and in general, to hang out! We’re inviting students in select ELI courses to preview the Beta site and give us feedback in upcoming blog posts. Here’s our first site review:
"From the first moment I saw this website, I liked the background colors, which are green and black. These two colors are soft and relaxing. In addition, these are NOVA’s colors. Secondly, the pictures representing each topic are attractive because of their colors and bright laughter. At the same time, they also speak for the topics. In the Club Hub, there are some available groups which are easy to access, and their themes are helpful for the school environment.  I love the songs in Music Lounge; they are appropriate for everyone and restful. The most helpful for ELI students is the Game Center. After a few hours of studying online, students can simply click on the Game Center to play challenge games and have some fun with their friends. Another thing I like about this site is the Event tab. This not only helps students stay up-to-date on recent and upcoming events, but also gives enough information for students to participate.  This site can be a place where students can make friends and help each other out in studying..."
We look forward to more feedback, ideas for site improvements and involvement in this project as we move forward with the next phases. If you are an ELI student interested in previewing the site, contact Bridget Downey, Student Life Specialist, for more information. And look forward to more VSU news coming soon!
