Choosing a Business Major

Hello! My name is Nadia. I am currently a NOVA student working on my degree in accounting.  I plan on transferring to George Mason University School of Management in fall 2012. I became interested in pursuing a career in business during my senior year in high school. I never really knew what aspect of business I wanted to pursue until recently when I looked more into accounting. Accounting really called out to me!  As for this post, I would like to share a few business majors with you. If you are confused with what business major you want to pursue, hopefully this helps...
  • Accounting: There are many different types of accountants! Some include public accountants, management accountants, and government accountants.  Accountants make sure that firms run efficiently by keeping accurate records.  Accountants analyze financial information for companies, governments and even individuals.  To be an accountant, it is important to have a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a CPA.
  • Marketing: Marketing is a very important part of successful businesses. Marketing majors focus on attracting customers, promoting products/goods/services.  Marketing also involves statistical analysis and mathematics.
  • Management:  Management runs on human action. It is the act of getting people to work together in order to accomplish goals and objectives. This includes planning, organizing, and controlling a business or organization.
Hope this helps! Share your tips by posting a comment!
