Take a Day On and Not a Day Off!

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems.

Over the past two years, NOVA Serves has offered 14 service projects and engaged over 750 students, faculty and staff in service to the local community. The projects are located throughout NOVA's service area and participant volunteers represent all of NOVA's campuses. This year there are six volunteer opportunities on January 16th to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Additional information on the day’s events can be found on the NOVA Serves: MLK Day Facebook page or NOVA Serves blog.

If you haven't had a chance yet, you may also want to visit the new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington DC.
The memorial has been in the works for several decades and was finally unveiled and opened to the public on August 22, 2010.

Turn your day off into a day on by celebrating the memory, life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

  1. I have always been a big celebrater of Martin Luther King Jr. day. My mother makes a cake regardless every year and we light a candle and pay our respects. It is the least we can do for a man that made such a huge impact on our society. It is unfortunate that his message is being lost as each year passes.
