The Traditional New Year's Eve Kiss

Among the many traditions celebrated on New Year’s Eve, the kiss at the stroke at midnight seems to be the most prominently featured!   Have you ever wondered about the meaning behind this traditional kiss?
According to a posting on the Ryan Seacrist Blog, the kiss at the stroke of midnight is practiced because it is believed that if you fail to kiss, you will face a year of coldness and lack of affection and loneliness for the rest of the year.  Other sources suggest it is about bonding and strengthening ties that you want to maintain in the future.
