Getting off to a Good Start in your Online Class!

Today is the first day of classes for Spring Semester! If you are taking online classes, here are some tips for starting off on the right foot.

1. First, pull out whatever calendar you use regularly to keep track of things.

2. Then log into Blackboard
and select your first class.

3. Carefully read through your syllabus and your assignment folder, looking for any critical dates. Note assignment due dates, exam dates, or other deadlines to be aware of as you complete your course.

4. For each date, mark your calendar twice—once on the actual date when the assignment is due or the action must be taken, and then a second time several days earlier than that, reminding you of the approaching deadline.

5. Repeat this for each of your courses.

6. Then, for each course, try to begin one of your assignments.

7. Finally, while you have your schedule out, you might want to map out what times during the week you will fit your study time in.

If you follow these steps and realize you don’t have time for everything you need to do in a week, feel free to contact ELI’s Academic Counselors at elicounselors@nvcc.edu. They will be happy to help you make good decisions that will reflect your time, resources, and education goals.
