Digital Portfolios: Keeping You Competitive in the Job Market

Let NOVA prepare you for the challenges of the new economy. Digital portfolios, or e-portfolios, have grown in popularity in recent years as a way for job seekers to truly impress employers. Instead of a paper resume, which often gets lost in the shuffle, send your future employers an e-portfolio demonstrating your skills and experiences, and wait for their amazed reaction. An e-portfolio not only showcases your industry-specific skills, but it also tells employers that you are a tech-savvy, creative, and innovative individual with highly prized skills in any job.

And guess what? NOVA is offering a Fall 2011 class, the online section of SDV 298, that teaches you to create a digital portfolio from scratch. No need to have computer skills; anyone can learn the simple portfolio program taught in this class. And guess what else? In addition to being a useful career tool, you can EARN CREDIT AT NOVA towards your program by submitting your e-portfolio to faculty evaluators after the class. If you have prior learning from work or hobbies, travel experience, or knowledge gained outside of college that you would like to count towards your NOVA program, send me (Katie Smith) an email at kpsmith@nvcc.edu. I’ll be happy to answer any questions about e-portfolio development at NOVA!
